The good news was that Tabor’s soccer women didn’t lose Saturday evening at McPherson.

The bad news was they didn’t get their first win of the season either. The match ended at 2-2 in double overtime.

The Bluejays fell behind 1-0 at the 26-minute mark. But two minutes later, Kelley White tied the score at 1-1 and it remained tied until halftime.

In the second half, Tabor fell behind 2-1 with six minutes to play, but Clancey Kelley scored in the final minute of regulation to send the game into overtime.

Both teams missed scoring chances in the extra frames.

Rachel Kostner was in goal for Tabor and made five saves while the Bluejay offense managed 12 shots on goal in the contest.

With the tie, Tabor’s record is 0-9-1 overall and 0-5-1 in KCAC play.

On Thursday, Tabor dropped a 3-0 decision to Kansas Wesleyan.

On Tuesday, the women lost a 2-1 heart-breaker at Leavenworth to Saint Mary.

The Spires scored with a little over four minutes left in the opening half kept the 1-0 lead through halftime.

The Spires stretched the advantage to 2-0 at the 26-minute mark of the second half before Tabor rallied.

Clancey Kelley just missed scoring on a free kick from 35 yards out with 15 minutes left in the game. But Kelley finally got the Bluejays on the the board on a corner kick from Stephanie Stuber with nine minutes remaining in the match. But one goal was all the Bluejay offense could muster.

“We battled hard, but couldn’t generate enough quality chances,” coach Herb Wiebe said. “It seems like we’re just one or two good passes away from a good scoring chance.”
