The Tabor College men’s soccer team stepped outside conference play Saturday with a trip to Siloam Springs, Ark., but probably wish they hadn’t.

The Bluejays absorbed an 8-0 loss to John Brown University.

“We were just outmanned like crazy,” coach Herb Wiebe said.

The loss dropped Tabor to 1-9 for the season.

Sterling-Tabor lost 2-0 to Sterling College on Thursday.

Sterling used a Bluejay defensive breakdown to score the first goal of the game.

“Ian Tomson came out and almost made the play, but just missed the ball,” coach Herb Wiebe said of Sterling’s goal with 15 minutes left in the half.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Bluejays narrowly missed tying the game when Silas Hibbs’ shot glanced off the post at the 20-minute mark.

Sterling solidified its lead five minutes later on a corner kick when Tabor punched the ball out, but directly to a Warrior who scored the goal.

The loss dropped Tabor to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in KCAC play.

Southwestern-Tabor got its first win of the season Tuesday, downing the Moundbuilders, 3-1.

“It was a good game for us,” coach Herb Wiebe said.

“We battled hard and took advantage of the opportunities as they came.”

The Bluejays took a 1-0 lead at the 35-minute mark of the first half when Travis Buckley stole the ball from a Moundbuilder defender.

Buckley then found the keeper off his line and chipped it over his head from 30 yards out.

Wiebe said Tabor “defended well and kept Southwestern from getting any opportunities to tie up the game.”

Leading 1-0, Tabor’s Luke Jost drew a penalty shot at 1:13 of the first half, which Chris Adrian put away for a 2-0 halftime advantage.

The Bluejays made the score 3-0 when Silas Hibbs played a ball to Chris Adrian, who collected it, beat two defenders and scored from the top.

A late goal from 20 yards out with six minutes to play to account for the final margin.

“This win should give us a good boost, and it was a win we definitely needed to have,” Wiebe said.
