Tabor tennis squads open abbreviated season

The Tabor College tennis team began an abbreviated fall season with matches in Wichita over the weekend.

In singles, Laurel Delamater went 2-1, Danni Brucks 1-1, Jennifer Proffitt 1-1, Erica Scofield 2-2 and Heather Stepanek 0-2.

In doubles play, the duo of Brucks and Proffitt came home with a championship, winning by default in the first round, then defeating Southern Nazarene, 8-6, and Nebraska Wesleyan, 8-3.

Delamater and Helmley placed second at 2-1. The duo defeated Nebraska Wesleyan, 8-6, and Friends, 8-6, before falling to Nebraska-Omaha, 2-8.

In Flight 5, Stepanek and Scofield lost 1-8 in their only match.

In men’s play, Tabor’s Michael Hagen went 0-2, Aaron Friesen 1-2, Jason Reiswig 0-2, Andrew Braun 0-2, Shane Miller 1-1 and Jesse Janzen 0-2.

In doubles, Reiswig and Scott Adrian won the Flight 4 championship by defeating Nebraska Wesleyan, 8-2, Friends, 8-4 and Barton County, 8-4.

In other doubles play, both Hagen and Braun and Janzen and Friesen went 0-1.
