Centre-The Cougars went 1-2 in their first competition of the season Aug. 30 at Canton-Galva.
In the opener, the Cougars lost to the host team, 23-25, 21-25.
Centre servers went 40-for-44 and won 23 rally points.
Setter Selena Seifert was 22-for-23, resulting in five kills.
Alyssa Luna led her team by going 5-for-7 in spike attempts with two kills.
In the second match, Centre defeated Elyria, 26-24, 25-17.
Centre scored 23 rally points and was 46-for-50 serving; Seifert recorded five aces. She also went 31-for-31 and Luna 12-for-12 on sets.
Jackie Klenda spiked successfully 11 of 12 attempts with five kills; Alisha Barney connected on 10 of 13 attempts with four kills.
In the final match, Centre lost to Inman, 23-25, 20-25.
The Cougars won 17 rally points and were 42-for-44 serving with Barney recording two aces.
Seifert went 25-for-28 setting, with four kills. Barney was 12-for-14 on the attack with three kills.
Goessel-The Bluebirds opened with a 2-1 showing at a quadrangular Aug. 30 at Lyons.
Goessel defeated Lyons, 25-23, 25-16, lost to Claflin 14-25, 12-25 and defeated Hillsboro, 25-23, 25-17.
Kory Hiebert led the team with 26 kills while Courtney Berkholz add 12. Hiebert also had a team-high 10 blocks and Berkholz added 6. Allison Banman recorded 37 assists while Brianna Unrau and Brittany Voth led in digs with 12 each.
Unrau was 100 percent serving with three aces.
“It was a great start to the season,” Goessel coach Crysta Guhr said.
