Mary Jo Bezdek, 77

Mary Jo (Pientka) Bezdek of Marion, 77, businesswoman, died July 6 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion.

Funeral mass was held July 11 at Holy Family Parish, St. Mark’s Church of Marion, with Father Hien Nguyen as celebrant. Interment was in Marion Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 18, 1927, to Edmund and Agnes (Hensley) Pientka in Tampa. On Oct. 19, 1949, she was married to Ernest W. Bezdek, who predeceased her.

She is survived by three sisters, Lorraine Leppke of Leadville, Colo., Margaret Bezdek of Florence and Joyce Richmond of Marion; a brother, Roy Pientka and wife Virginia of Hesston; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials were established with the Marion Fire Department, Ladies VFW Auxiliary and Marion Food Bank.

Eugene L. Gilbert, 88

Eugene L. Gilbert, 88, plumber, died July 11 in Marion.

A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

He was born Aug. 15, 1916, to John and Flora Gilbert in Florence.

Survivors include his wife, Laurel (Pavey) Gilbert; a step-daughter, Karen Lovell of Wymore, Neb.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial was established with the American Legion of Florence, in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm, Marion, KS 66861.

Orval Goodwin, 92

Orval Lee Goodwin, 92, oil field superintendent for Thomas H. Allen Drilling Co., died June 30 at Vintage Place in El Dorado.

The graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, at Cedar Point Cemetery, with pastor Andy Torres Jr. officiating.

He was born Dec. 25, 1912, to William and Lillie Boyd Goodwin. On June 4, 1934, he was married to Mary Parks, who predeceased him in 2003.

He is survived by a son, J.D. and wife Pam Goodwin of Hampton, Va.; a daughter, Beverly and husband Roy Reynolds of Cedar Point; two brothers, Clyde Goodwin of Harlingen, Texas, and Jack Goodwin of Talala, Okla.; two sisters, Lois Van Matre of Jacksonville, Fla., and Bonny Goodwin Carinder of El Dorado; sister-law Opal Frederick of Hutchinson; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial was established with Hospice Care of Kansas.

Mildred Hansen, 79

Mildred J. Hansen, 79, of Gibson City, Ill., formerly a Hillsboro gift-shop owner, died May 27 at Gibson Area Hospital.

A private graveside service was held at Elliott Cemetery, Elliott, Ill.

She was born June 16, 1925, to P. Fejerskov and Minna (Rempel) Hansen in Hillsboro.

Survivors include a sister, Edith Gaesser of Yorkville.

Memorials may be sent to Gibson City Bible Church, in care of Lamb Funeral Home, 303 N. Church St., Gibson City, IL 60936-1223.

Rosemary Litton, 81

Rosemary Litton, 81, died July 5 at Newton Medical Center.

The funeral was held July 9 at Baker Funeral Home in Peabody, with pastor Robert Priest officiating. Interment was at Prairies Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.

She was born Aug. 16, 1924 to Walter L. and Alice (Blackmur) Litton in Peabody.

She is survived by a sister, Helen Kliewer of Pawhuska, Okla.

A memorial was established with Peabody United Methodist Church.
