Trojans, Warriors earn all-league softball recognition

The Hillsboro High School and Marion-Florence/Peabody-Burns softball teams each had five players who received all-league recognition from the Mid-Central Activities Association coaches last week.

The 15-6 Trojans landed one player on the first team, two on the second team and had two who received honorable mention.

Repeating as first-team catcher was Emily Ratzlaff, who hit .403 her senior year and led the team in runs batted in (30), doubles (4), home runs (2) and slugging percentage (.629). She scored 28 runs, drew 12 walks and had a .500 on-base percentage.

Named second-team shortstop was senior Amy Duerksen, who batted .342, scored 25 runs and had a .507 slugging percentage with three doubles, three triples and a home run. She led the team in walks (14), had an on-base percentage of .448 and a fielding percentage of .895 with 28 put-outs.

Pitcher Marissa Diener was picked for the second team. The senior right-hander finished 8-3 with an earned-run average of 2.39. In 701/3 innings, she recorded 71 strikeouts, including a school-record 17 in a seven-inning game. She walked only 12 batters.

Laura Lindsay was named to the second team as a utility player. As a pitcher, the junior right-hander went 7-3 with an ERA of 2.64 in 581/3 innings. She struck out 44 batters and walked five. She also played in the outfield, where she had a fielding percentage of .889. At the plate, Lindsay hit .258 with 12 RBIs and led the team in sacrifices (10).

Amanda Bina received honorable mention at third base as a freshman. She led the team in batting (.457), hits (32), triples (4), stolen bases (14) and on-base percentage (.531). She drove in 13 runs and posted a slugging percentage of .600.

The Warriors (10-9), in their first year in the MCAA, had two players chosen for the second team and three who received honorable mention.

Junior Megan Hudson was a second-team pick at catcher and senior Whitney Wear made the second team as an outfielder.

Hudson batted .400 with 18 RBIs. She scored 29 runs and had an on-base percentage of .455 and a slugging percentage of .563.

Wear batted .345 with nine RBIs. She had an on-base percentage of .400 and a slugging percentage of .382.

Receiving honorable mention were seniors Sarah Williams at second base, Amber Richmond at shortstop, and pitcher/infielder Leann Thomas as a utility player.

Williams batted .380 with two home runs and led the team in runs scored (33) and walks (11). She had an on-base percentage of .462 and a slugging percentage of .595.

Richmond batted .380 with 17 RBIs. She had an on-base percentage of .457 and a slugging percentage of .479.

Thomas was 5-6 as a pitcher with an ERA of 3.29 with 71 strikeouts in 851/3 innings. The right-hander walked 41. At the plate, she led the team in hitting (.342), RBIs (28) and slugging percent (.662).
