The Tabor College men’s tennis team lost to the Southwestern Moundbuilders 7-2 in Winfield last week.

In singles, No. 1 Andrew Braun lost to Layfayette Berry 7-5, 2-6, 4-6; No. 2 Chris Adrian lost to Ramon Lozano 2-6, 6-0, 4-6; No. 3 Jesse Janzen lost to Jason Kearns 4-6, 6-1, 2-6; No. 4 Matt Nelson lost to Joel Wilke 0-6, 3-6; No. 5 Ian Thomson defeated Munya Madeyi 2-6, 6-3, 7-6; and No. 6 Nick Glanzer defeated Devon Sweard 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles play, No. 1 Braun and Adrian lost to Berry and Lozano 1-6, 4-6; No. 2 Janzen and Nelson lost to Kearns and Wilke 3-6, 4-6; and No. 3 Thomson and Glanzer lost to Hanson and Madeyi 1-6, 2-6.

“We continue to struggle in doubles play,” said coach Lonnie Isaac. “We simply don’t understand the necessity of keeping balls in play and allowing ourselves to become involved in the point. The effort in singles was much better but still wasn’t good enough to dig us out of an 0-3 hole.

“As a group, improvement has been evident and it will just be real important for us to keep positive attitudes as we finish out the year,” he added. “Each individual needs to take it upon themselves to get better for the future.”
