HRC to offer drama camps this summer for kids, youth

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
The Hillsboro Recreation Commission is planning a children’s summer drama camp for students who have completed grades 1-6, and an acting and stagecraft camp for students who have completed grades 7-12.

The children’s summer drama camp will instruct students in the basics of theater through games and activities.

Practices will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., June 13 through June 16. A final production is scheduled for 1:15 p.m., June 17.

Deadline for registration is April 22, with a registration fee of $15. No late registrations will be accepted.

Students may enroll at Hillsboro City Hall or at Hillsboro schools.

Participants in the acting and stagecraft camp will audition for parts in a musical production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

Auditions will be conducted at 3:45 p.m., May 2, at the HHS vocal room. Vocal rehearsals will be held at 3:45 p.m., May 11, 18 and 25 in the vocal room.

The camp will be conducted from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., June 13 through June 17, in the HHS auditorium.

The final performance will be at 7 p.m., Friday, June 17, at the HHS auditorium.

All students signed up for the acting part of this camp will be involved on stage.

Students not wanting to appear on stage will work as stage managers, on set design and costume construction.

All students signed up for the camp should come to the auditions, which are designed to determine which students will fill which acting roles.

Students need to have songs and speaking roles memorized before the camp starts.

Deadline for registration is April 22 and no late registrations will be accepted. Registration fees are $25 per student.
