Trojans take two games from the Black Bears

Hillsboro swept both games from Sterling in fairly comfortable fashion Friday night at Brown Gymnasium.

The Trojan girls had an off shooting night overall, but still rolled to a 48-33 victory. Hannah Marsh’s 14 points in the second quarter was the exception to the cold-shooting rule and her four 3-pointers during that period turned the ball game around for Hillsboro, which trailed 9-6 after one quarter.

Marsh finished with 17 points for Hillsboro and JuliAnne Chisholm added 10 as the Trojans improved to 9-6 overall and 5-1 in league play.

The undefeated Trojan boys took care of business in fine fashion against the winless Black Bears, 66-41. Hillsboro looked sharp in a game where they had an excuse not to be. The Trojans led 22-7 after one quarter and 39-15 at halftime.

Two minutes into the third quarter, coach Darrel Knoll pulled his starters for good, and the continuous clock rule kicked in for the final period.

Derek Hamm scored 12 points to pace the Trojans, who improved to 15-0 overall and 6-0 in league play. Daniel Deckert added 10 points as did Wade Weibert.
