Hillsboro’s girls’ and boys’ teams road strong third-quarter efforts to take two league wins against Marion on Friday night, Jan. 28, at Marion.

The Trojan girls never trailed in their contest, but through two quarters they led only by six at 20-14. But an impressive 17-4 surge in that pivotal third period pretty much determined the outcome, which ended up being a 53-35 victory.

Hannah Marsh was on fire for Hillsboro, scoring 24 points, including four 3-pointers. JuliAnne Chisholm added 15 points for the Trojans, who improved to 7-6 for the season and 3-1 in the MCAA.

The Trojan boys, meanwhile, jumped to a 23-15 lead after one quarter and played the Warriors even in the second quarter. With a 31-23 lead, the Trojans went on an 18-9 surge in the third period to take command of the ball game. Hillsboro led by as many as 21 (57-36) in the fourth quarter on the way to a 63-49 victory.

Four Trojans finished in double figures, led by Eric Weinbrenner with 14. Daniel Deckert added 13, Kyle Kroeker 11 and Lucas Hamm 10.

Dale Vogel scored a game-high 21.

With the win, the Trojans stay unbeaten at 13-0 and move to 4-0 in league play.
