We applaud Hillsboro High School Activities Director Max Heinrichs and the Trojan Booster Club for expanding the Trojan Classic to include a girls’ tournament after 10 years as a successful boys-only event. We realize the move was precipitated by a trend toward bi-gender tournaments across the state, but we’re glad both Trojan teams can play their mid-season tournaments before the home fans.

Heinrichs and his Trojan Booster executive committee-Autumn Chisholm, Gary Andrews, Kirby Fadenrecht, Steven Hughbanks and Randy Whisenhunt-have invested extraordinary energy to pull off this event. Teaming with Marion High Activities Director Tod Gordon and the Warrior Booster Club was absolutely critical to make the event possible. The spirit of cooperation between the two schools is another great by-product of the expanded format.

This is a win-win deal regardless which teams take home the championship trophies. -DR
