Hillsboro and Marion wrestlers go 2-0 at Lindsborg quad

The Hillsboro and Marion wrestling teams each came home with 2-0 marks from a quadrangular meet at Lindsborg on Thursday, Dec. 16.

The Trojans defeated the host team, Smoky Valley, 64-18, and Hesston, 43-28. Marion defeated Hesston, 39-29, and Smoky Valley, 48-18.

Hillsboro posted seven victories on the mat against Smoky Valley-six by fall. Earning the falls were Frankie Martin (112 pounds), Chris Jensen (119), Eric Cress (135), Ryan Kaiser (140), Andrew Bina (145) and Matt Brown. None of those matches lasted into the third period.

Ric Johnson won his match (125) with a 12-3 decision on points.

Earning wins by forfeit were Alex Jost (103), Josh Kenney (171), CJ Shaw (215) and Kurtis Shaw (275).

Grady Stultz was pinned at 130 pounds and Daniel Roble at 189 for Hillsboro’s only losses on the mat. Smoky Valley won one match by forfeit.

Against Hesston, the Trojans won four matches on the mat and lost five.

Winning were Jensen (119) by an 11-6 decision, Ross Schroeder (130) by fall, Cress by a 15-4 decision and Bina by fall.

Winning by forfeit were Jost (103), Martin (119), Brown (152) and Kurtis Shaw (275).

Johnson (125) lost by decision, 0-6, Kaiser (140) lost 2-8, Kenney (171) and Roble (189) lost by fall and CJ Shaw lost 4-12. Hesston won one weight class by forfeit.

Marion, meanwhile, won four matches on the mat against Hesston.

Hank Collett (125) won by decision, Charlie Holub (130) by fall, Chris Freeby (171) by fall and Adam Depler (189) by fall.

Winning by forfeit were Logan Richmond (103), Chelsea Arnhold (119) and Drew Looper (215).

The Warriors’ Riley Ross (119) lost by major decision, John Barr (135) lost 2-4 and Casey Nelson (152) lost by major decision.

Hesston was awarded three wins by forfeit.

Against Smoky Valley, five Warriors on on the mat-all by fall: Arnhold (112), Ross (119), Holub (152), Freeby (171) and Depler (189.

Richmond (103) and Looper (215) won by forfeit.

Collett (125) lost Marion’s only match on the mat, by fall.

JV tourney-The Trojans played host to a large junior varsity tournament on Saturday.

Fifteen Trojans participated.

Zach Magnuson went 3-0 at 103 pounds for first place. Alex Jost went 4-1 at 103 pounds for second place. Frankie Martin was 3-1 at 112 pounds for third place.

Zach Jost was 3-0 at 119 pounds for first place. Chris Jensen was 2-2 at 119 pounds for fourth place. Ross Schroeder was 2-2 at 125 pounds for third place. Matt Brown was 1-3 at 125 pounds for fourth place. Sean Leihy went 1-2 at 135 pounds and did not place.

Jacob Yoder was 2-2 at 145 pounds for third place. Darcy Unrau was 1-3 at 145 pounds for fourth place. Josh Thomas was 3-1 at 152 pounds for third place.

Daniel Roble went 1-3 at 171 pounds for fourth place. Josh Kenney went 2-2 at 171 for third place. Zach Luthi was 1-4 at 171 for fourth place. CJ Shaw went 1-2 at 215 and did not place.

Coming-The Hillsboro and Marion varsity teams return to action Jan. 6 with a quadrangular at Hillsboro with Smoky Valley and Haven.
