Tabor men defeat Newman University

Tabor College moved its record to 3-2 for the season with a thrilling 69-68 win over the Newman University Jets Wednesday night in Hillsboro.



Tabor committed 15 first half turnovers but still led 34-28 at halftime.



The Bluejays increased their lead to 10 at 41-31 before Newman rallied to tie Tabor and eventually take the lead.



Newman’s Kevin Blick hit a 3-pointer with 28 seconds remaining giving Newman a 68-67 lead but Grant Brubacher was fouled with just two seconds remaining and hit both free throws to give Tabor the 69-68 victory and had Newman its first loss in the process.



Brubacher led Tabor with 17 points followed by Martin de Boer with 16 and Anthony Monson had 12 as Tabor hit 49 percent of their field goal attempts.



Newman was paced by Blick who was the only Jet in double figures with 15 points as Newman hit on 41 percent of their field goal attempts including 11 of 28 3-point attempts.



With the win, Tabor improves to 3-2 on the season while Newman falls to 5-1.



The Bluejays travel to Hastings, NE this weekend to battle Graceland and Baker.
