The Marion County Commission met Friday in a $688,606 payday meeting.
County Clerk Carol Maggard said expenses were above average because of quarterly payments and road paint-striping expenses from the road and bridge department.
She reported that sales taxes received for August was $44,711, nearly even with last August’s figure of $44,760. It was also nearly even with sales tax collections in 2000 and 2001, but more than collections in 1999 and 2002.
Total sales tax collected for 2004 is $57,738 ahead of what was collected at the time in 2003, which was $427,336. The amount for all of 2003 was $454,810.
Maggard said she has received certification of completion of the county microloan program from the state following a final monitoring session.
The commissioners met in a 10-minute executive session for personnel with County Attorney Susan Robson. Afterward, Commissioner Howard Collett moved that, in light of “certain inequities being brought to light” by publication of county salaries, an employee in Robson’s department, Susanna Robinson, have her wages increased by $50 a month until new ratings from the League of Kansas Municipalities are used to determine if they should be higher or lower. The motion passed 3-0.

Cardie’s bid was accepted for areas 1 and 2 for 800 gallons of diesel at $1.5714 a gallon and 2,150 gallons of diesel at $1.5714 per gallon. CG&S had bid $1.6063 and $1.6063 for the same areas, respectively.

The written report of Noreen Weems, director of the department for the elderly, stated that 117 persons registered for the Senior Citizens of Marion County 44th Annual Meeting hosted by the Goessel Senior Center in October.
She said Edwin Winter and Marlin Bartel were elected to second terms from the first district, Margaret Jirak for a second term from the second district, and Irvin Goertzen for a first term from the third district.
