Canton-Galva feels Wildcats’ power

Canton-Galva- The Eagles fell to powerhouse Moundridge Friday, 68-21. The Eagles trailed just 14-7 after one quarter, having scored on a two-yard run by Seth Moddelmog and his extra-point kick.

But Moundridge outscored the Eagles 27-0 in the second quarter to grab a 41-7 halftime lead.

Canton-Galva scored in the third quarter on a 45-yard pass from Jowers to Derek Bair, and in the fourth quarter on a one-yard run by Brock Davis.

Jowers was 7-for-15 passing for 128 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

Moddelmog rushed 17 times for 41 yards and Davis carried the ball 16 times for 50 yards.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 1-6 for the year. They travel to Inman on Friday.

Centre-The Cougars lost in district play Friday and fell to Cuba-Hillcrest, 32-18.

Centre jumped to a 6-0 lead with 8:22 left in the first quarter when Andrew Hajek scored on a one-yard run.

After falling behind 16-6, Centre began the second quarter with a Hajek touchdown run of 33 yards to cut the margin to 16-12.

But Cuba-Hillcrest made a second quarter surge and led 32-12 at halftime.

Centre scored the only points of the second half with 2:32 to play in the third quarter when Seth Jirak ran in for a touchdown.

Centre rolled up 138 rushing yards while Cuba-Hillcrest had 210. Hajek carried the ball 19 times for 79 yards to lead the Cougars. He was 7-for-12 passing for 59 yards.

Jirak caught four passes for 33 yards while Keenan Geissert caught two for 18 yards.

Aaron Bowman had nine solo tackles and two assists, Jirak had five unassisted tackles and 14 assists and a fumble recovery, and Tad Remy had one unassisted stop and 10 assists.

With the loss, Centre falls to 1-6 heading into its game at home against Axtell on Friday.

Goessel-The Bluebirds defeated Flint Hills 29-22 on Friday. Goessel led 13-10 after one quarter thanks to a 15-yard run by Travis Buller and a 53-yard run by Justin Fensky.

Flint Hills led 16-13 at halftime, but Goessel answered with a Fensky touchdown run of 43 yards.

Trailing 22-21 heading into the fourth quarter, Goessel scored the winning points on a three-yard run by Buller.

Fensky carried the ball 28 times for 213 yards while Buller had 62 yards on 11 carries.

Barrett Hiebert was 4-for-11 passing for 23 yards but threw two interceptions.

Kyle Unruh grabbed an interception and returned it 28 yards.

Goessel’s defense allowed Flint Hills just 37 yards rushing on 32 carries while forcing and recovering two Flint Hills fumbles.

With the district victory, Goessel improves to 4-3 for the season.

Peabody-Burns-The Warriors defeated Chase County 41-7 in district play. No other information was provided.
