High school volleyball teams tuning up for post-season

Centre-The Cougars split a pair of Eisenhower League matches Tuesday in Hope. Centre beat Wakefield, 25-12, 25-14, then lost to Hope, 25-11, 27-25.

Against Wakefield, Centre was 48-of-49 serving with Jill Fenske, Jackie Klenda, Brianna Stahlecker and Selena Seifert all registering two aces.

Stahlecker was 15-for-15 setting, leading to six kills, while Seifert was 5-for-5 for three kills.

Klenda registered four kills on 8-for-9 attacks and Alisha Barney was 3-for-4 with two kills.

Against Hope, Centre was 35-for-37 serving. Stahlecker was 32-for-32 in setting resulting in eight kills; Alyssa Luna was 11-for-13 with two kills.

Fenske was 18-for-21 on the attack with four kills; Klenda was 9-for-10 with five kills.

With the split, Centre’s record is 9-10.

Peabody-Burns- The Warriors dropped a pair of home matches to Hutch Trinity and Remington last week.

In a 9-25, 12-25 loss to Trinity, Andrea Ferren led PBHS with nine digs and one service ace while Megan Weber had five digs and one block.

Jessi Hilliard was credited with three digs, two blocks, two kills and one assist.

“Andrea did a nice job playing back-row defense,” coach Darren Schroeder said. “She dug up a lot of hard balls.”

As a team, the Warriors recorded seven kills and 26 digs.

“We’re starting to really play together and making teams earn tough points,” Schroeder said.

Remington won the second match, 7-25, 19-25. Hilliard registered eight digs, five blocks and two assists to pace the Warriors.

Other key contributors were Rebecca Morris (four digs, three kills, two blocks), Ferren (four digs, one assist) and Traci Windsor (three digs, three kills, one block, one assist).

“Becky Morris and Traci Windsor played a great front row with some good kills in the second game,” Schroeder said.

“We attacked the ball hard to make the second game competitive.”

As a team, the Warriors had 11 kills and 23 digs in the match.

Goessel-The Bluebirds defeated Sedgwick, 8-25, 25-22, 25-21, but lost to Little River 8-25, 8-25.

Canton-Galva-The Eagles defeated Ell-Saline, 25-14, 19-25, 25-20.
