Tabor College captured a hard fought 26-22 homecoming win over the Friends Falcons Saturday afternoon at Reimer Field.

The Falcons took an early 7-0 lead on an Aaron Howell 9-yard touchdown run but Tabor answered less than a minute later when quarterback Ricky Ishida hooked up with Jeff MacKinnon from 36 yards out to tie the game at 7 with10:56 to play in the first quarter.

The Bluejays took their first lead at the 3:42 mark when Ted Telemaque run it in from 10 yards out to give TC a 14-7 lead.

With 2:16 to play in the second quarter, Ishida called his own number from one yard out to give the Bluejays a 20-7 lead.

But Friends rallied and scored on a Howell touchdown run of 12 yards with just 36 seconds to play in the half to whittle theTC lead to 20-14 at intermission.

That’s the way it stood until Ishida hooked up with Layne Frick with 2:33 to play in the third quarter, giving the Bluejays a 26-14 lead.

But the Falcons refused to roll over and scored a touchdown on another Howell run, this time from one yard out with 6:25 to play. The two-point conversion sliced the Bluejay lead to four at 26-22.

But Tabor controlled the ball the rest of the game, never allowing the Falcon offense back on the field as they ran out the clock for the four point win.

Ishida finished the day 16-of-26 passing for 237 yards while Roger Butler led the Bluejay rushing game with 83 yards on 20 carries.

Aaron Howell had just 50 yards on 22 carries after stinging Southwestern College for 326 yards on 36 carries last week.

Tabor travels to Ottawa next Saturday for a 1:30 meeting with the Braves.
