Tabor adds 31 new staff for 2004-05 school year

Tabor College has added 31 new staff members for the 2004-05 academic year, including a dean of student development, two full-time faculty members, an admissions counselor, 15 adjunct instructors, six support staff and seven coaches.

James Fischer began as dean of student development in August. He comes from Bethel College, Mishawaka, Ind., where he was director of counseling services for nine years.

Randall Hess has joined the faculty as assistant professor in mathematics and computer science. Hess has previous college teaching experience at Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, Ind., and most recently served as IT software engineer at JACAM Chemicals in Sterling.

With about 25 years of experience as a computer professional, he has also served as a programmer, analyst and senior software engineer in both academic and business settings.

Martin Dawson has joined the psychology faculty. He has extensive teaching experience in secondary, undergraduate and graduate levels, including instructor and visiting professor at Xi An Post and Telecommunications Institute and South China Women’s College, both located in the People’s Republic of China.

Dawson also has experience as a marriage and family therapist and adolescent group facilitator.

Joe Wuest became an admissions counselor at Tabor in September. His previously worked with the Marion County Special Education Cooperative and the Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing.

Wuest is studying business administration at Tabor College Wichita.

The following people will be adjunct instructors this fall: Bruce Bradshaw, business; Shin-Hee Chin, business and art; Lucy Dawson, sociology; Nadine Friesen, Bible and religion; Brad Jantz, business; John Lester, biology; David Marsh, business; Jim Meyer, art; Holly Nickel, English; Philip Sawatzky, foreign language; Paul Smith, history; Jessica Tatro, biology.

Added to the team of support staff are Lorraine Gerry, administrative assistant in enrollment management; Jason Schroeder, maintenance; Kory and Dawn Unruh, resident director and cheer coach; Janet Whisenhunt, library staff; and Karly Winter, director of personal counseling.

Joining the athletic department this fall are Deon Durst, assistant football coach; Brandon Fiedler, assistant softball coach; Dan Harrison, head golf coach; Jeff Penner, assistant football coach; Cliff Schenk, assistant football coach; LaVon Smith, assistant football and track and field coach; Sean Spoontz, assistant football coach.
