Hillsboro falls to Colleigiate, 35-0

Hillsboro coach Len Coryea felt his Hillsboro Trojan football team gave him a full-game effort for the first time this season, but it wasn’t nearly enough as Wichita Collegiate outmuscled the Trojans, 35-0, Friday night in Wichita.

Collegiate took the opening kickoff and drove 63 yards in nine plays to go up 6-0. The score did not change again until the first play of the second quarter, when the Spartans capped a seven-play, 57-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run and a 2-point conversion run to go ahead 14-0. The score was 21-0 at halftime. When two more scores in the first 4 minutes of the third quarter bumped the margin to 35-0, the MCAA’s mercy rule kicked in, and the clock ran continuously through the rest of the game.

The Trojans threatened to score in the last few seconds of the game, but Collegiate held on for the shut out.

With the loss, Hillsboro falls to 1-4 while Collegiate improves to 4-1.
