Hillsboro won the fifth annual Bruce/Crowfoot Challenge Cup held Sept. 11 and 12. The event is a showdown between Hillsboro and Marion golfers.

Eighteen of the best golfers from each club competed at team and individual match play.

The location of the event rotates between the two communities. This year, Hillsboro played host.

Key to Hillsboro’s overall victory was a decisive win in singles play on Sunday. Hillsboro now leads the series 3-2.

Team members are chosen based upon the scores of the top 16 golfers during club championships. Team captains can add two other players.

“We laugh and joke around, but the competition is taken very seriously by each club,” Doug Dick, captain of the Hillsboro team said. “No one likes to lose, but when it’s over everyone congratulates the victor.”
