Burns wins PRIDE ‘Excellence’ award

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
Burns is one of 19 communities in Kansas to be named a “Community of Excellence” winner in the state’s PRIDE program.

The Community of Excellence designation is the highest level of recognition for communities enrolled in PRIDE. It is awarded to communities that have implemented a comprehensive approach to community and economic development during the past year.

Also named among the winners were Alton, Almena, Argonia, Basehor, Burns, Cunningham, Eskridge, Greeley, Grinnell, Goff, Highland, Kinsley, Lakin, Lenora, Lucas, Melvern, Mount Hope, Potwin and Rossville.

The corner park project in Burns won the organization’s PRIDE STAR award, which recognizes a project that meets an identified need, enhances the quality of life, and furthers the community development process.

These awards will be presented at a Nov. 6 meeting in Salina.

Sixty-four communities currently participate in PRIDE, which is administered cooperatively by the Kansas Department of Commerce and Kansas State University Cooperative Extension Service.

The purpose of the program is to address issues of planning, community services, and community enrichment with citizen-initiated, grass-roots plans of action.
