A hot time for arts and crafts

Temperatures in the mid to upper 90s didn’t seem to affect the turnout for Saturday’s Arts & Crafts Fair in Hillsboro, but it may have shortened their stay, according to Christy Wulf, fair director.

Hillsboro Police Chief Dan Kinning told Wulf he observed more cars than usual in the parking lots, and estimated attendance at 45,000.

“They kind of came and went faster, though, because of the heat,” Wulf said. “It was so hot.”

She said it was too early to tell the impact on sales.

“Right now we’re not showing sales as good as last year, but we don’t have as many sales reports in as we did at this time last year.

Overall, the event went “great,” Wulf said. “I’m very pleased, but I give credit where it’s due. I know it wouldn’t have come off like it did without those volunteers.”
