Bluejays down Southwestern College 22-20

Tabor College traveled to Winfield Saturday night and defeated the Moundbuilders 22-20.


Ricky Ishida scored on a 1-yd quarterback keeper to give Tabor a 7-0 lead with 5:04 to play in the first quarter.

After Southwestern tied the game at 7, Ishida hit Mike Beach with a 20-yd touchdown pass, but the extra point sailed wide left giving the Bluejays a 13-7 lead which they took into the halftime locker room.

The Tabor defense got into the scoring act in the third quarter as they tackled Southwestern in the end zone for a safety and a 15-7 lead.

After Southwestern cut the margin to 15-13, Tabor stretched the lead to 22-13 on an Ishida to Ben Brown touchdown pass of 3 yards.

Southwestern scored again with just 1:13 to play to make the final score 22-20.

Ishida was 16-30 for 176 yards while Roger Butler scorched the Moundbuilder defense for 176 yards on 32 carries.

Tabor returns home next Saturday night to host Sterling College beginning at 7:00 at Reimer Field.
