EDITORIAL: Ready or not…

It’s upon us again. The Hillsboro Arts & Crafts Fair and Marion’s Art in the Park are only days away, and the eyes of craft lovers around the state and beyond will be focused on our two communities come Saturday.

It’s an annual miracle that occurs in Marion County every third Saturday of September. Between 40,000 to 50,000 guests arrive to browse and then buy treasurers from among almost every hand-made craft imaginable. While they’re here, they leave behind far more than a $1 million at the Hillsboro fair alone, figuring in the obligatory food and drink needed to fuel such shopping.

Our job? Well, almost everyone in town will have a specific task or assignment to fulfill. But the task we share corporately is to be welcoming hosts and friendly neighbors.

This is our day to shine. Let’s make the most of it. -DR
