Bluejays defeat Southwestern Assemblies of God 43-7

From the opening kickoff, it was evident the Tabor Bluejays would give first year head coach Mike Gardner his initial head coaching victory.

Tabor pinned Southwest Assemblies of God (SAGU) on its own 1-yard line on the opening kickoff and never looked back.

Roger Butler scored on runs of 6-yards and 2-yards while Ricky Ishida hooked up with Mike Beach from 66-yards out to stake Tabor to a 21-0 lead after one quarter.

SAGU scored its only points in the second quarter on a 61-yard pass but Tabor answered with a 37-yard Brian Kimsey field goal and a 15-yard Tyler McKim interception return to lead 30-7 at halftime.

Tabor added an Ishida to Jeff MacKinnon 4-yard pass and an Ishida to Beach 9-yard pass to complete the scoring.

Ishida was 18-24 for 22 yards and 3 touchdowns and Ben Brown rushed for 91 yards while Butler added 88 yards.

Tabor begins the season 1-0 as they begin KCAC play next Saturday night in Winfield against Southwestern College.
