EDITORIALS: A good guy finishes first

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
With little notice and no fanfare, Hillsboro High School’s Dennis Boldt was named the Kansas high school track and field coach of the year last month by the Kansas Coaches Association. Prompting the award, no doubt, was the occasion of the Trojan boys bringing home their second title in four years this spring. It was the third state title in Boldt’s HHS tenure.

What’s particularly noteworthy is that this award includes all school classifications, not just Class 3A. This award is a great honor for Coach Boldt, for Hillsboro High School and for those of us who have watched him in action with our youth. He not only knows and cares deeply about track and field, he knows and cares even more deeply about kids.

Congratulations, Coach Boldt. You deserve the recognition, and to it we add our appreciation for your commitment to building championship character, too. -DR
