Hillsboro recreation announces instructional volleyball camp

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission will be sponsoring an instructional volleyball camp for youth in September and October.

The camp, which will emphasize learning the proper skills for serving, setting, passing and spiking will meet for six sessions from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. each Monday night, beginning Sept. 13 and ending Oct. 18.

The sessions, open to girls and boys in grades three through six, will be in Hillsboro High School’s Brown Gymnasium. Stephanie Sinclair, head volleyball coach at Hillsboro Middle School, will be the lead instructor with help from her assistants and players.

Organizers say the camp is not a league and games will not be played unless the instructors feel the players are ready. All participants will report at the same time each week, but will be grouped according to age by the instructors. Participants should wear clothing appropriate for physical activity.

Enrollment will be limited to the first 40 participants unless instructors agree to accept more. Because of the popularity of the program in the past, organizers are encouraging youth to register early to ensure a spot.

The deadline for enrolling will be Sept. 3. A $25 fee is required to participate and each participant will receive a T-shirt.

Enrollment forms may be mailed or turned into to HRC at Hillsboro City Hall, 118 E. Grand, or at the school offices. The HRC can be reached by e-mail at hillsbororec@dtnspeed.net, or by calling 947-3490.
