Larry L. Kerns, 70

Larry L. Kerns, 70, U.S. Air Force veteran and employed in the aviation industry in Wichita, died Aug. 22 at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.

The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 26, at Marion Christian Church with pastor Carl Helm officiating. The inurnment service, with military rites by Fort Riley Honor Guard, will be at Marion Cemetery.

He was born July 13, 1934, to Lawrence and Helen Frazier (Hosmer) Kerns in Emporia. On Dec. 30, 1955, he was married to Chris Hocknell, who survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Van Kerns of Mustang, Okla., and Michael Kerns of Clay Center; two daughters, Marjorie Tajchman and Sharon Ewing, both of Marion; one sister, Virginia Kay Hydes of Helena, Mont.; brother-in-law Tom Gravell and sister-in-law Terri Philleo, both of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with St. Luke Hospital in care of Zeiner Funeral Home of Marion.

Tom Murphy, 60

Tom Murphy, 60, builder and carpenter, died Aug. 22 at Salina Regional Health Center.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church of Holy Family Parish in Tampa with Father Steven Gronert officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tampa.

He was born March 23, 1944, to Francis and Eleanor Murphy in Hillsboro.

He is survived by his mother of Tampa; one son, James Murphy of Dallas; one daughter, Teresa Murphy-Jurgensen of Abilene; one step-daughter, Tonya Creek of Abilene; the mother of James and Teresa, Connie Atkinson of Abilene; one grandchild and four step-grandchildren.
