Work on Phase 2 of Hillsboro’s Main Street project was scheduled to begin Tuesday, City Administrator Steven Garrett said Monday.

The project, which includes about 11/2 blocks of North Main from the railroad right-of-way just north of the post office to Third Street, will replace the street and add new curb and gutters.

“We’re excited to get this under way,” Garrett said.

That section of North Main will not be open to traffic during contruction.

Homeowners and employees and patrons of businesses in the area will have to use alleyways to access their properties.

“We have notified the residents and businesses in the area about the need to use alleys,” Garrett said.

“Our crews have been working to make those alleys more accessible to car traffic.

“Residents in the area will also need to place their trash for pick-up in the alley,” Garrett said.

“Barring bad weather, the project should be complete within just a few weeks,” he said.
