Marion 3rd, Hillsboro 9th at Invit’l

The Marion County Invitational golf tournament was held last Friday, with both Marion and Hillsboro hosting 18 holes of golf for each team in the 36-hole scoring format.

Hesston earned the top spot with a team score of 624. Marion finished in third place with 18-hole scores of 324 at Hillsboro and 332 at Marion for an overall total of 656.

Hillsboro finished ninth with an 18-hole score of 348 on its home course and a 368 at Marion for an overall total of 716.

Centre finished 14th with a 401 at Hillsboro and a 423 at Marion for a 36-hole total of 824.

Individually, Nickolas Hett of Marion grabbed fifth-place medalist honors with a 75 at Hillsboro and a 79 at Marion for a total of 154, which was 14 shots behind Invitational champion Zac Potter of Cheney.

Travis Hett of Marion finished ninth with a 79 at Hillsboro and an 80 at Marion for a total score of 159.

Also competing for Marion were Nick Carlson (M85/H85, 170), Trevor Jones (M88/H85, 173) and John Whitwell (M93/H93, 186).

For Hillsboro, Andrew Bina led the way with an 82 at both Marion and Hillsboro for total of 164-good for 14th place overall.

Also competing for Hillsboro were Ricky Johnson (M90/H83, 173), Lance Bartel (M95/H96, 191), Randy Klassen (M101/H87, 188) and Kody Borg (M112/H97, 209).

For Centre, Nathan Brunner led the way with a 98 at Marion and a 99 at Hillsboro for a total of 197.

Also competing for Centre were Josh Ryff (M100/H100, 200), Steve Hageberg (M106/H98, 204), Andrew Donahue (M119/H104, 223), Joseph Stroda (M126/H128, 254) and Teaira Turner (M130/ H119, 249).

Coming-Both Hillsboro and Marion were scheduled to participate in the Mid Central Activities Association League meet at Hesston Monday while Marion travels to Herington on Thursday to battle in the final CVL meet.
