ORIGINALLY WRITTEN DR
Riley County scored the first basket, but after that it was all Hillsboro as the Trojans won a 66-61 decision in the battle for third place at Hutchinson on Saturday.

After Riley’s opening score by Andy Boyd, Hillsboro got four points each from Caleb Marsh and Tyler Peachey to take an 8-2 lead.

Kyle Jilka’s 3-pointer from the right corner with 1.8 seconds left gave the Trojans a 20-12 advantage at the first break. By intermission the score was 33-21.

Riley inched closer in the third quarter, but Hillsboro held a 48-41 advantage by quarter’s end.

Hillsboro played a strong first 5:30 of the fourth quarter, capped by a power drive through the lane and dunk by Peachey to give the Trojans a 63-45 margin. Riley made the score respectable with a late surge fueled by some Trojan errors and some clutch Riley shooting.

The Trojans finish their season with 22-4 mark. This win marked the second straight year the Trojans have beaten the Falcons in the third-place game.
