Hillsboro boys earn berth in sub-state finals

The Hillsboro boys knocked down four straight 3-pointers before Southeast of Saline finally scored, and were never really threatened on the way to a 71-45 win at the Class 3A sub-state at Hillsboro Thursday night.

The Trojans led 22-10 at the first break and 35-17 at intermission — despite a foul fest that sent SES to the line 12 times in the second quarter.

Hillsboro picked up the pace again in the third quarter and expanded the margin to 50-23 by the end of the period.

Caleb Marsh led Hillsboro’s attack with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Kyle Jilka added a career-high 15, including three 3-pointers, and Tyler Peachey added 12 points.

Hillsboro, now at 19-3, will take on top-seeded Hesston (20-2), who defeated Halstead in the other semifinals matchup. Game time Saturday will be 7:30 p.m.
