Season winds down for area high school basketball teams

Peabody-Burns 60, Remington 43

The Warriors broke open a close game by outscoring Remington 25-12 in the fourth quarter on the way to victory Tuesday night.

Peabody-Burns trailed 26-25 at halftime and slipped into a 35-31 lead after three quarters before its dramatic finish.

Caleb Good led the Warriors with 19 points. Brandon Crabtree, Jason Carroll and Job Hilliard each added 10.

Canton-Galva 47, Peabody-Burns 44

Canton-Galva trailed 15-6 after the first quarter but used a 21-12 fourth quarter to edge the Warriors Friday night.

Justin Bacon led the Eagles with 15 points and Casey Haines added 14.

“Bacon scored 15 of our first 19 points to keep us in it on the offensive end,” Kern said. “Haines scored eight of his in the final quarter.”

Caleb Good scored 14 and Isaac Good 13 for Peabody-Burns.

“Hopefully, we can continue to build on our momentum,” Kern said. “The kids are playing their best basketball of the season at both ends of the floor.”

Centre 51, Wakefield 39

Centre used balanced scoring and a strong second quarter to defeat Wakefield Tuesday night in the opening round of Class 1A regionals.

The Cougars outscored Wakefield 14-6 in the decisive second period.

Raschelle Jirak led Centre with 15 points. Megan Gutsch added 13 and Laura Klenda 10.

Quivira Heights 62, Goessel 52

The Thunderbirds ended the season for the Goessel Bluebirds Tuesday night in the first round of Class 1A regionals.

Quivira Heights led 27-22 at halftime.

The Thunderbirds connected on 24 of 32 free throws in the contest while Goessel hit six of 11.

Kory Hiebert led the Bluebirds with 14 points. Courtney Berkholz added 13 and Brittany Goerzen and Darla Funk each scored 10.

Peabody-Burns 48, Remington 43

Peabody-Burns led 28-21 at halftime and held on for the victory Tuesday night in a Heart of America League matchup.

Marie Unruh led the Warriors with 15 points, including three 3-point baskets. Gretchen Berns added 12 and Dalli Jo Hammond and Jana Windsor each scored 10.

Peabody-Burns 74, Canton-Galva 31

The Warriors jumped to a 42-14 halftime advantage and coasted to an easy win over the Eagles Friday night.

Gretchen Berns led the Warrior charge with 21, Marie Unruh added 16 and Dalli Jo Hammond 12.

Canton-Galva was led by Dani Bair with nine points, Ashley Unruh added eight and Shae Steenson seven.

White City 50, Centre 37

White City rode a 14-6 second-quarter advantage to a victory over Centre in Class 1A regional action Friday night.

The Cougars trailed 27-16 at halftime and couldn’t overcome the deficit as their season came to and end.

Laura Klenda closed out an excellent career by leading Centre with 17 points while Megan Gutsch added nine.
