John Fast has been hired as the new superintendent for Goessel schools.

The USD 411 Board of Education hired Fast Feb. 23 in a special meeting.

Fast has been principal for kindergarten through eighth grade. He will retain K-6 principal duties. Consequently, the principal’s position for grades 7-12 is now open.

Fast will succeed Chet Roberts, whose resignation as superintendent and principal for grades nine through 12 will be effective at the end of the fiscal year.

Fast is in his eighth year as a Goessel administrator, having been with the district since 1996.

“We are very excited about Fast accepting the superintendent position,” Board chair Lynel Unrau said. “He is very well qualified and is currently finishing his doctorate. Even though he has big shoes to fill, the board feels comfortable with him coming on board.”

Unrau expressed appreciation for Roberts’ years of service to the district. Roberts has served for nearly 33 years, beginning in 1970.

“He certainly has left a tremendous impact on the community, school and church,” Unrau said. “He has touched a lot of student lives.”
