Trojans drop dual matches to Eureka and Council Grove

The Hillsboro High School wrestling team dropped a pair of matches in a double-dual meet at home with Eureka and Council Grove on Thursday.

The Trojans dropped the opening dual against Eureka, 51-24.

Hillsboro won four matches on the mat, all by fall. Daniel Bookless, wrestling at 103 pounds, pinned Brandon Erie in the first period, Eric Cress (125) pinned Chris Austin in the first period, Andrew Bina (140) pinned Jonathan Jones in the third round, and Daniel Yoder (145) pinned Kenneth McDonald in the first round.

The Trojans lost five matches on the mat. Ricky Johnson (112) was pinned by Nash Burtin in the third period, Ross Schroeder (119) was pinned by Garrett Alley in the second period, Karl Magnuson (152) was pinned by Mike Mefford in the second period, Adam Dirks (160) lost 15-2 to Jordan Manning, and Kurtis Shaw (275) lost 16-1 to Steve Hamilton.

Eureka picked up 24 points on forfeits in four weight classes.

Against Council Grove, the Trojans won only three matches on the mat.

Johnson pinned Dana Stephenson, Cress pinned Kacey Ripley and Bina pinned Justin Kunc.

On the other side of the ledger, Bookless lost 15-0 to Logan Zimmerman, Schroeder was pinned by Keith Williams in the first period, Darcy Unrau was pinned by Josh Drummond in the first period, Yoder lost 9-7 to Dustin Carson, Magnuson was pinned by Joey Simpson in the first period, Dirks was pinned by Michael Brakenhoff in the third period, and Kurtis Shaw lost 13-2 to Travis Worrell.

Council Grove picked up 18 points on forfeits.

Coming-The Trojans will compete Saturday in the Southeast of Saline Invitational, which begins at 10 a.m.
