The Hillsboro girls’ and boys’ teams took care of business Tuesday night by beating Nickerson teams that came into Brown Gymnasium with losing records.

The Trojan girls struggled to find their game the entire first half and trailed at intermission, 15-12. But a 6-0 run to start the third quarter got the Trojans on track for a 49-35 victory.

Katie Fast led the Trojans with 14 points, JulieAnne Chisholm added 12 and Emily Ratzlff chipped in 11. With the win, the Trojans improved to 9-5 for the season.

The boys, meanwhile, won their game 69-43, but the game was not as easy as the final score would indicate.

HHS trailed 4-1 early and barely led at the end of the first quarter, 12-11. Even with 2:49 left in the half, the Trojans were ahead only 23-18. But a 9-2 run boosted the lead to 32-20 at the break.

A 10-2 start to the third quarter broke the game open. By the end of the quarter, Hillsboro led by 10, 50-31.

Tyler Peachey had a huge night on offense, finishing with a career-high 26 points. Eric Weinbrenner added 15 for the Trojans, who improved to 12-2 with the win.
