The Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church Christian Endeavor Program will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 11, at the church located in rural Hillsboro.

LMC class members

chosen for 2004

The Marion County Economic Development Council and Leadership Marion County Board of Directors announce the Leadership Marion County Class of 2004.

Class participants are Chris Bielefeld and Ken Parry, both of Peabody; Elise Brunhoeber of Burns; Matthew Dalke of Hillsboro; Tina Groening, Jo Ottensmeier and Paige Schneider, all of Marion; Mark Moore of Florence; and Darryl Thiesen of Goessel.

The class will begin its training in leadership development at its opening retreat on Jan. 8 in Goessel.

The eight class sessions are held in various areas of Marion County and include leadership-skills development. One session includes a trip to Topeka to tour the state capital and meet elected officials.

Class participants will learn how to lead a group to perform effectively through vision, consensus, teamwork and collaboration.

The Leadership Marion County Board of Trustees selects the class participants and develops the curriculum and agendas.

Trustees are chair Becky Nuss, secretary Steven Garrett, Jim Elliott and adviser Brad Bartel, all of Hillsboro; David Brazil and vice chair Joanna Brazil, both of Peabody; Myrna Hamm of Tampa; Racquel Thiesen of Goessel; Sarah Cope of Florence; and Carolyn Koehn of Burns.

Library storytime

Sign up for the winter/spring session of storytime at the Hillsboro Public Library is now available, according to children’s librarian Delora Kaufman.

Classes will continue through the end of April and will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 14 and Thursday, Jan. 15 for pre-schoolers age 3 through kindergarten. The storytimes offered are Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m., and Thursdays at 10:15 a.m.

The 45-minute sessions will include activities such as reading, games and crafts.

The cost of the session is $2 per child.

Goessel junior high serving sloppy joes

Goessel-Area Junior High is planning its annual sloppy-joe lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 11, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church fellowship hall in Goessel.

Donations will be accepted, and proceeds will be used to help defray the costs of the 34th annual Memorial Day weekend retreat at Camp WaShunGa.

This is the only fund-raiser of the year for the group. No reservations are necessary.

The public is invited.

Mennonite museum

announces hours

The Mennonite Heritage Museum will be open only by appointment until Feb. 29.

The museum’s annual meeting will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 18, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in rural Goessel. Delbert Goering of Moundridge will be the featured speaker. Everyone is invited to the program and the faspa that follows.

Monday, Jan. 12

The Farmerettes will meet at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 12, in the home of Myrta Bartel.

Paul Jantzen will give a presentation on “Mailboxes.”

Roll call will be “A special letter or package I have received.”

Praise IV to sing

gospel music Jan. 11

Praise IV of Hutchinson will present a gospel music program at 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 11, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in rural Goessel.

The gospel group is a mixed quartet of members Randy Headings and wife Marie, Allen Pauls and wife Karlene and pianist Ellen Mathias and husband Paul.

The public is invited.
