Bluejays split with Bethel

The Tabor College women were defeated by Bethel College 90-83 in double overtime Thursday night at North Newton.



Tabor trailed in the first half by as many as 12 points and took a 32-23 deficit into the halftime locker room.



But inspired second half play propelled the Bluejays into a 53-48 lead with just 6:18 to play, but Tabor couldn’t hold their lead and the game went into overtime.



Tabor connected on just 14 of 29 free throws in the game to doom themselves to a double overtime 90-83 loss.



Erica Hemmert led the Bluejays with 20 points, Angela Kroeker added 19, and Rachelle Wertenberger had 13 as Tabor fell to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the KCAC.



The Tabor men moved their overall record to 3-7 and their conference record to 3-0 with a 74-66 victory over Bethel.



Tabor hit 51 percent of their shots in the game and committed just four second half turnovers .



Tied at halftime, Tabor built a 14 point second half lead and held on for their eight point victory.



Anthony Monson led the Bluejays with 19 points, Colby Bettles added 16, and Tyson Ratzlaff chipped in 14 in the Bluejay victory.



Tabor returns home Saturday to host Sterling College in their final games before Christmas break. The womens game begins at 5:00.
