MOPS schedules Nov. 25 meeting

Morning Mothers of Preschoolers will meet from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro.

Barb Ratzlaff will speak on parents’ prayers for their children. The creative activity will be making a Christmas ornament.

New mothers are welcome to attend free of charge for their first visit.

Childcare is provided for mothers who attend the sessions.

GHS award program set for Nov. 18

Goessel High School will hold its Fall Awards program, Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the school cafeteria.

Ice cream will be served at 6:30 p.m., and the awards will begin at 7 p.m. The program will also include fall sports and music activities.

Holiday home tour set for Florence

The Florence PRIDE Committee will sponsor the Florence Holiday Christmas Home Tour from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 14, in Florence.

Tickets are $5 in advance for ages 10 and older and will cost $7 the day of the tour.

Pride Committee chair Sue Klassen said she is encouraging local businesses and residents to decorate for the holidays in conjunction with the home tour.

All proceeds will benefit the various Pride Committee community projects.

Farmer Appreciation meal set for Nov. 24

The Marion Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its annual “Farmer Appreciation” steak feed beginning at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 24, at the Marion City Building.

Thanksgiving service to be held Nov. 23

The Hillsboro Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 23, at the Hillsboro High School gymnasium.

The Hillsboro Elementary School Choir and musicians from Tabor College will present musical performances.

A free-will offering will be taken.

Organizers also ask participants to bring items for Main Street Ministries. They need peanut butter, jelly, paper towels, toilet paper, soap and canned goods, such as fruit, beans, corn and soup.

“Come for an inspirational time of giving thanks, singing and sharing,” said Bruce Porter, president of the Hillsboro Ministerial Association.

The public is invited.

Open house set for Schlicht’s 80th

An open house to celebrate the 80th birthday of Luella Schlicht of Canton will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 700 26th Ave., Canton.

The event will be hosted by her children and grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to the open house, and the honoree requests no gifts.

HRC offers class for holiday crafts

The Hillsboro Recreation Commission will offer Holiday Crafts for Kids from 3:45 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Hillsboro City Hall building.

Instructor Sally Andrews will lead students in grades three through five as they make Thanksgiving turkey magnets and holiday wall hangings.

The cost is $7 per person; class size is limited to the first 10 paid participants; and organizers encourage early sign-up.

Registration forms must be turned in to Hillsboro Elementary School, and the deadline to sign up is 9 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 20.

Peabody seniors baking peppernuts

The Peabody Senior Center is selling peppernuts baked by senior-center volunteers.

The peppernuts cost $7 per pound, and organizers are planning two more baking days. The peppernuts will be available until the two-day supply is exhausted.

Pride committee meets in Florence

The Florence Pride Committee met Nov. 15 at the Florence Ambulance building, and members made plans for a community newsletter to be published monthly.

Rick Burcky has been chosen as editor of the newsletter, a publication that will include articles, photos and ads for area businesses. The newsletter will be available on the first day of each month for $1 per issue. Subscriptions will be available at a rate of $10 for 12 months. The first issue will be offered free of charge.

Plans for the Florence Holiday Christmas Home Tour, scheduled for Dec. 14, were discussed at the meeting.

Any residents unable to put up outside Christmas lights may sign up at the city building for assistance. Lights will be put up for one week beginning Friday, Nov. 28. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Mentor Study Club to meet Nov. 24

The Mentor Study Club will meet at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 24, in the commons at Park Village Congregate Living.

The program will be “What’s an Estate Sale” presented by the Pat Nuss team of Real Estate Specialists.

Chaired by Connie Willis, the meeting will feature the quotation “Better is an empty house than an ill-willed tenant” by S. Foster.

4-H club meets in rural Hillsboro

The South Cottonwood 4-H Club held its November meeting at the home of Sharon Prieb in rural Hillsboro.

Following the meeting, members went on a hayrack ride, ate supper and played games.

The next meeting and Christmas party will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7, at Trail Lane Bowling in Hillsboro.

CHS FFA selling poinsettia plants

The Centre High School FFA members will be selling poinsettia plants from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Dec. 6, in the CHS greenhouse.

Several colors of poinsettias will be available, such as red, pink and white.

Proceeds of the sale will be used to help fund the greenhouse.
