Charles L. Hein, 55

Charles “Charlie” L. Hein of Hillsboro, 55, retired freezer operator with the former Associated Milk Producers Inc. in Hillsboro, died Sept. 19 at his home in Hillsboro.

A memorial service was held at Zeiner Funeral Home on Sept. 24 with pastor John Ratzlaff officiating. Burial was at Marion Cemetery.

He was born May 17, 1948, to William and Catherine (Ruby) Hein in Florence. On Aug. 23, 1989, he was married to Sharon Eck, who survives.

He is also survived by his mother of Marion; two step-sons, Peter Eck and wife Amy of Phillipburg and Christopher Eck and wife Colleen of Coralville, Iowa; one step-daughter, Jada Russell and husband Clint of Topeka; three brothers, Vernon Hein and wife Ellen of Roseburg, Ore., Richard Hein and wife Phillis of Stillwell and Walter Hein and wife Judy of Marion; four sisters, Phyllis Landis and husband Claude and Linda Brewer and husband Darryl, all of Marion, Laura Wayman and husband Don of Hutchinson and Catherine Ann Camien and husband Tom of Emporia; and two grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Central Homecare and Hospice in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.

Katie Schmidt

Katie Schmidt of Goessel, 90, homemaker, died Sept. 25 at Bethesda Home in Goessel.

The funeral was Sept. 30 at First Mennonite Church of Hillsboro with pastors James Dunn and Verney Unruh officiating. Burial was at Haven of Rest in Hillsboro.

She was born Jan. 2, 1913, to Bernhard C. and Mary (Friesen) Dyck in rural Buhler. On March 6, 1938, she was married to Isaac “Ike” Schmidt, who predeceased her in 1967.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jane Janzen of Walton and Helen K. McMinn of Hillsboro; two sons, Jerry W. Schmidt of Hillsboro and Dale K. Schmidt of McPherson; one brother, Alvin Dyck of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Edna Koehn of Hesston; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Memorials were established with Bethesda Home and Central Homecare and Hospice.

Robert Vajnar, 82

Robert Vajnar of Tampa, 82, farmer, died Sept. 25 near Burdick.

The funeral was Sept. 29 at First Baptist Church of Durham with pastor Curtis Wiens officiating. Burial was at Durham Park Cemetery in rural Durham.

He was born Aug. 1, 1921, to Anton and Frantiska (Chodl) Vajnar in rural Tampa. On Aug. 23, 1970, he was married to Jane Cook, who survives.

He is also survived by one brother, Jerry Vajnar of Newton and 15 nieces and nephews.

Memorials have been established with First Baptist Church of Durham and Moffitt/Crandall American Legion Post of Tampa.
