EDITORIAL: Our big day approaches

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
In mere hours, Hillsboro and Marion once again will become the twin capitals of arts and crafts in Kansas when our neighboring communities hold their respective fairs.

We realize these huge events, which draw some 50,000 people to the county, are met with mixed feelings by the locals. The one-day extravaganza means a lot of work for a lot of people because it takes an army of volunteers to make it run so smoothly. But by the time the day is over, and the financial proceeds and goodwill are tabulated, it is indeed a great day for our two towns.

The folks who will come on Saturday are not intruders. They’re guests in our home. Let’s put our best foot forward and show these one-day visitors why living in this county 365 days a year is so satisfying. -DR
