Larry Burkholder, 61

Larry “Jack” J. Burkholder, 61, former co-owner of B & L Conoco, and former employee with Associated Milk Producers Inc. and Marion Manufacturing, died Sept. 8 in Newton.

The funeral was Sept. 11 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion with pastor Rick Branson officiating. The burial was at Marion Cemetery.

He was born April 18, 1942, to Marvin “Mac” and Ruby (Pierce) Burkholder in Marion. On Dec. 8, 1962, he was married to Carol Kline.

He is survived by three daughters, Leslie Turk and husband Bill of Newton, Tracy Reid and husband Kevin of Maize and Stephanie McLain and husband Larry of Shawnee; one sister, Nancy Serpico of Edisto, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Care of Kansas.

Velma Krause, 79

Velma Katherine Krause, 79, homemaker of Lincolnville, died Sept. 13 at Newman Hospital in Emporia.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 17, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincolnville with pastor Alan Stahlecker officiating. Burial will be at Lincolnville Cemetery.

She was born May 2, 1924, to Alexander and Susanna (Riffel) Hanschu in Ramona. On June 3, 1945, she was married to Paul Henry Krause, who predeceased her in 1985.

She is survived by four sons, Gary Krause and wife Deb of Council Grove, Dennis Krause and wife Ana of Lincolnville, Darrel Krause and wife Ginny of Lakewood, Colo., and Terry Krause and wife Erin of Emporia; two brothers, Harold Hanschu of Salina and Junior Hanschu of Ramona; and 10 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

A memorial was established with St. John’s Lutheran Church.
