Hillsboro native Matt Dalke has been hired as director of the Hillsboro Recreation Commission, effective Sept. 8.

Dalke has several years experience in city recreation programming, including stints at Lyons, Emporia and Newton.

Dalke was hired following an interview process with several applicants that involved Garrett and members of the HRC.

“Of the applicants, Matt was the interviewee who had the most experience with the kind of aggressive program the commission wanted and was well prepared with ideas to help along our program,” said City Administrator Steven Garrett.

Stephanie Sinclair, HRC chair, agreed.

“Matt Dalke had many years of experience in recreation and has many new ideas to bring to Hillsboro,” she said.

“His years of experience made him our top choice, along with the new ideas he brings.”

Garrett said that in the search for a new program director, the vision of the HRC has “crystallized to more of an attainable vision.”

He said the commission, under Dalke’s direction, intends to build upon the past by offering a variety of athletic teams and opportunities for children, more non-athletic programs for children and more programs for adults.
