James Cooper Jr., 26

James G. Cooper Jr., 26, assistant manager at a McDonald’s restaurant in Salina, died Aug. 3.

The funeral was Aug. 9 at Ryan Mortuary in Salina. Cremation followed the service, and inurnment was scheduled for a later date.

He was born Oct. 14, 1976, in Wichita.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Bezdek of Salina; his father, James Cooper Sr. of Maryland; a brother, Jason Bezdek of Halstead; two sisters, Latisha Miller of Newton and Miranda Bezdek of Wichita; a grandmother, Isabella Bezdek of Hillsboro; his stepfather, Derald Bezdek of Wichita; and his fiancee, Shannon Chandler of Salina.

A memorial has been established in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, KS 67401.

Marshall Keagle, 72

Marshall Dean Keagle, 72, retired foreman for McPherson Concrete Products, died Aug. 9 at Memorial Hospital in McPherson.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Canton Christian Church with pastor Jack Smith officiating. Burial will be at Canton Township Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 16, 1931, to William Aubrey Sr. and Neva Pearl (Johnson) Keagle in McPherson.

He is survived by a brother, Loren Jay Keagle and two sisters, Bonnie Delores Westbrook and Beverly Jolene Clark, all of McPherson.

Memorials have been established with Canton Christian Church or the American Cancer Society in care of Olson’s Mortuary Inc., Box 355, Canton, KS 67428.

Florus Talkington, 72

Florus Talkington, 72, oil-field worker, died Aug. 8 in Oneida.

The graveside service and burial was Aug. 12 at Burns Cemetery with pastor Jim Pohlman officiating.

He was born March 13, 1931, to Florus and Jessie (Harlan) Talkington in Clements. On June 8, 1953, he was married to Rose Faunce, who survives.

He is also survived by three sons, Jessie Talkington of Burns, Virgil Talkington of Morrill and Doug Talkington of Centralia; four daughters, Evelyn Barrett and Patricia Bentley, both of Oneida, Carrie Talkington of Topeka and Rose Ann Scott of Burns; two brothers, Bud Talkington of Hamilton and Gary Talkington of El Dorado; five sisters, Dora Faunce and Flora Casper, both of Rosalia, Edna Dwyer of Warsaw, Mo., Ethel Shever of Wichita and Margaret Hollman of El Dorado; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.

Carroll Shields, 50

Carroll Jay Shields, 50, died Aug. 10 at HCA Wesley Medical Center in Wichita from injuries suffered July 13 in an accident east of Lincolnville.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 14, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincolnville.

Burial will be at Lewis Cemetery in Ramona.

At press time, information was incomplete, so a complete obituary will be published in the next week’s paper.
