Two teenagers were killed Thursday when their car collided with a semitrailer truck in Marion County.

Alison Teri Cady, 16, of Marion was a passenger in a car driven by Lyndsay Rae Sherbert, 15, of Kinsley and Marion. The accident occurred at 2:10 p.m., July 24, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and U.S. Highway 77 in Florence.

According to a report filed by Undersheriff Randal Brazil of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, the double fatality occurred when a 1998 Ford Taurus, driven by Sherbert, pulled in front of a westbound 1995 Volvo semi tractor-trailer owned by Rolling West Trucking, Centerville, Iowa, and driven by Alvin Leroy Waddell, 62, of Centerville.

Sherbert had stopped at the stop sign at the U.S. 50 and U.S. 77 junction near Florence then proceeded northbound across the intersection on U.S. 77. The semi struck the Ford on the passenger side. Both Sherbert and Cady died from injuries received. Neither driver or passenger were wearing seat belts. The truck driver was uninjured.

Sherbert is the daughter of Daniel Sherbert of Marion and Luanne Molzen of Kinsley. The funeral was July 29 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marion, and burial was at Marion Cemetery.

Cady is the daughter of Jeff and Theresa Cady of Marion. The funeral was July 28 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish in Pilsen. Burial was at Pilsen Cemetery.
