HHS golfers fifth in MCAA

The Hillsboro golf team placed fifth among the eight teams competing in the Mid-Central Activities Association league meet May 12 at Halstead.

Wichita Collegiate won the title with a four-man score of 312. Hesston shot 318, followed by Nickerson with 349, Ellinwood with 352, Hillsboro with 362, Halstead with 391 and Lyons with 393.

For the Trojans, sophomore Lance Bartel shot the team’s best score with an 88, which placed him 17th among 41 golfers. Close behind him was Randy Klassen, who placed 19th at 89. Billy Winegarner was 24th at 92, Andrew Bina was 25th at 93, Derek Hamm was 29th at 98 and Jordan Allen was 36th at 104.

Top medalist was Taylor Dunham of Hesston with a score of 76.
