HMS track teams run at Haven

The eighth-grade girls were the only Hillsboro Middle School track team to win its division at the eight-team Haven Invitational Friday.

The girls rolled up 132 points to easily outdistance its nearest competitor, Hesston, with 77.

Hanna Marsh and JuliAnne Chisholm each won three individual events for the Trojans. Marsh won the long jump (16 feet 101/2 inches), 100 meters (12.88 seconds) and the 200 meters (26.94). Chisholm won the high jump (4-10), 1,600 meters (5:45.08) and the 75-meter hurdles (11.63).

Jessica Heidel also won an individual event, topping the 400-meter field in 1:08.11.

The 4×100 team of Tina Frick, Megan Peachey, Kelsie Penner and Sydney Waner placed first in 53.35 seconds.

The eighth-grade boys tied Lindsborg for second place with 75 points, falling eight points short of Collegiate for the title.

Lucas Hamm won Hillsboro’s only individual events with the top performance in shot put (40-111/2) and the discus (121-3).

The Trojans also won two relays. The 4×200 team of Tyler Suderman, Adam Dirks, Aaron Stepanek and Tyler Kaufman crossed the line in 1:48.59, and the medley team of Chris Muzyka, Troy Frick, Michael Suderman and Hamm won in 1:48.48.

The HMS seventh-grade girls placed second with 88 points, only 11 points behind Hesston.

Anna Woelk won the only individual event for HMS, clearing 4-3 in the high jump.

The Trojans won two relays: Steph Abbot, Bobbi Jo Carlson, Jayme Claassen and Lauren Jost teamed to win the 4×200 in 2:09.97, and Jessica Klose, Jenesa Klose, Tessa Simpson and Amy Neufeld won the medley in a time of 2:13.39.

The seventh-grade boys placed fourth and did not win an event.

The Trojans’ best showing was a second place by Cody McMillen in the 400 meters.
