Partly Nonsense

Maybe we should set up a Web cam to show the progress on the Main Street renovation now under way. I for one would have been interested in checking it out on the Internet while in Atlanta last week.

If anyone is put off by the mess or finds it too inconvenient to come to the Free Press, I will make house calls if the request is reasonable. Or our back door is open and we have signs posted on the doors. Use the south door if you wish to come in from the alley.

Speaking of Atlanta, we had a glorious time there for four days. The grandsons were well-behaved and in grand form. Louis talks a lot now but is a little guy at 3 years old.

While there I learned about Sponge Bob Square Pants, Gogurt, Tivo and how a 3-year-old eats doughnuts when no one is watching. Before anyone knew what was going on, Louis had licked and chewed the chocolate and sprinkles off of the tops of four doughnuts and was really enjoying himself.

To clear security at the airport, I had to take off my shoes and send them through the screening equipment-going and coming back. In fact, in Wichita everyone had to take off their shoes.

Millions of people now routinely take off their shoes because of one guy who decided to put explosives in his shoes and get on an airplane.

We took in an arts and crafts fair called the Inman Park Festival, which is held on the tree-lined streets of an old neighborhood. According to what I read in the newspaper, the show was similar in size to the Hillsboro fair: about 400 exhibitors and nearly 45,000 attendees.

They had a big parade in the middle of the afternoon, which was a lot of fun to watch. It featured many unique entries which you would probably never see in our parade.

When our kids were little and my folks came for a visit, my dad would pull out the change in his pocket and let the kids pick what they wanted. Amy would always take the coins worth the most and Dan would take the shiny ones.

To keep the tradition going, I pulled my coins out. Alex took the quarters and a Susan B. Anthony dollar and Louie took the pennies and dimes.

Don’t forget to buy your tickets for the KU Barnstorming Tour here in Hillsboro next Sunday afternoon. It’s not a real basketball game with our Marion County all-stars, but it’s definitely fun to watch.
