Bernadine Sadey, 84

Bernadine M. Sadey, 84, homemaker and retired professional cake baker and decorator, died April 19 at The Cedars in McPherson.

The funeral was April 24 at Olson’s Mortuary in Canton with chaplain Leah Harness officiating. A private family inurnment was held at Canton Township Cemetery.

She was born June 9, 1918, to Wilbur C. and Marie (Corbin) Yeager in Emporia. On June 3, 1939, she was married to Garland W. Sadey, who predeceased her in 2000.

She is survived by three sons, Jim Sadey of Blue Springs, Mo., Tom Sadey of McPherson and Bill Sadey of Falun; one daughter, Marie Klinkerman of Canton; two brothers, Robert B. Yeager of Charles City, Iowa, and John Yeager of Aurora, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Canton United Methodist Church in care of Olson’s Mortuary.

Margaret Wingerd, 94

Margaret H. Wingerd, 94, homemaker and retired school teacher, died April 21 at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.

The graveside service and burial was April 24 at Marion Cemetery with pastor Vernon Bowers officiating.

She was born Oct. 15, 1908, to George and Augusta (Swenson) Ruhnke in the Lyona community, Dickinson County. On June 18, 1931, she was married to Kenneth Wingerd, who predeceased her in 1975.

She is survived by two sons, Gordon Wingerd of Overland Park and Bruce Wingerd of Clay Center, seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial of the donor’s choice is requested by the family.

Georgie Vogel, 58

Georgie Ann Vogel, 58, former employee of J & K Insurance company, employee of Kingfisher’s Inn, and weigh master at Martin Marietta Aggregates of Marion, died April 21 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

The funeral was April 24 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion with pastors John Goering and Rick Branson officiating. Burial was at Marion Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 30, 1944, to George J. and Leona Fern (Higgins) Helmer in Marion. On Feb. 10, 1963, she was married to Garry Paul Vogel.

She is survived by her father and his wife, Carol, of Newton; two daughters, Darla Ann Gore and husband Jeff of Florence, and Jamie Lynn McDonald and husband James of Wichita; three sisters, Linda Stucky and husband Dan and Brenda Buller and husband Mark, all of Newton, and Barbara Bessel and husband Jerry of Assaria; and four grandchildren.

A memorial was established with Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

Leona Meloan, 88

Leona Jane Meloan, 88, retired drapery-shop owner, died April 21 at The Cedars in McPherson.

The graveside service was April 25 at Lehigh Mennonite Cemetery with pastor Neil Amstutz officiating.

She was born March 19, 1915, to Daniel and Katherine Margaret (Armbrister) Birkle in Shattuck, Okla. On June 9, 1934, she was married to Ralph Kasper, who died in 1983. She was also married to Andy Meloan, who predeceased her.

She is survived by five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials have been established with McPherson County Humane Society and Hospice Care of Kansas, both in care of Olson’s Mortuary, Canton.

Victor Jost, 90

Victor “Vic” Jost, 90, former owner of the Potwin Locker, died April 26 at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater.

The funeral was April 29 at the Swiss Church in Whitewater with pastors Dale Janzen and Arnold Ensz officiating. Burial was at McGill Cemetery in Potwin.

He was born June 26, 1912, to Martin and Bertha (Golbek) Jost in rural Hillsboro. On Nov. 5, 1934, he was married to Helen Childs, who predeceased him in 1997.

He is survived by one son, Gerald Jost of Whitewater; two brothers, Chester Jost and Ted Jost, both of Bakersfield, Calif.; one sister, Helen Malin of Hillsboro; and two grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Ponca Bible Camp.

Phyllis Melton, 87

Phyllis Nadine (Williamson) Melton, 87, homemaker, died April 25 at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.

The funeral was April 28 at Valley United Methodist Church in Marion with pastor Kennedy Mukwindidza officiating. Burial was at Marion Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 4, 1915, in Marion. On Nov. 28, 1937, she was married to Ralph R. Melton, who predeceased her in 1976.

She is survived by two sons, Robert C. Melton of Kansas City, Mo., and James W. Melton of Newton; a daughter, Mary Lynam and husband John K. of Fairway; a grandson, John Melton Lynam and wife Jody of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and four nieces.

Memorials have been established with Valley United Methodist Church, St. Luke Hospital, Marion City Library and Marion Central Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can also be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Edith Hamilton, 53

Edith Mae Hamilton, 53, certified nurse assistant in the health-care industry, died April 23 at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Mo.

The funeral service and burial was April 29 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Florence under the direction of Zeiner Funeral Home in Florence.

She was born Jan. 13, 1950, to Efton E. and Anna M. (Kerns) Hamilton in Topeka.

She is survived by a son, Eugene H. Randolph Jr. and wife Melissa of Joplin; three sisters, Marjorie Mason of Florida, Pat Harrison of Carbondale and Judy Shively of Overbrook; two brothers, Gene Hamilton of Oregon and Terry Hamilton of Carl Junction; and three grandchildren.

Theophil Kroupa, 82

Theophil H. Kroupa, 82, farmer and rancher, died April 24 at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.

The funeral was April 28 at St. John Nepomucene Church, Holy Family Parish in Pilsen with Father Stephen Gronert officiating. Burial was at Pilsen Cemetery.

He was born Nov. 18, 1920, to Joseph and Antonia (Shramek) Kroupa in rural Pilsen. He was married to Ruth (Klenda) Kroupa, who predeceased him in 1949.

He is survived by a son, Kenneth Kroupa and wife Cathy of Hutchinson; two brothers, Edmond Kroupa of Pilsen and Virgil Kroupa of Wichita; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials were established with St. John Nepomucene Church and the Pilsen Community Center.

Cynthia Harms, 51

Cynthia Ann (Allred) Harms, 51, physical therapist at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez, Colo., died April 19 in Durango, Colo.

The memorial service was held April 26 at the Durango Community Recreation Center.

She was born Oct. 26, 1951, to Jim and Gwen Allred in Lawton, Okla. On March 22, 1986, she was married to Jerry Harms, who survives.

She is also survived by her parents of St. Petersburg, Fla., and a sister, Kathy Freeman and husband Jeff of Tampa, Fla.

A memorial has been established with the La Plata County Humane Society in Durango.
