EDITORIAL: Good ways at Hays

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
Congratulations are in order to the eight wrestlers from Hillsboro and Marion who competed at the Class 3-2-1A state tournament in Hays this past weekend. Both high schools qualified four athletes this year, and although none of them brought home an individual medal by finishing among the top six in their respective weight classes, they competed hard against some excellent competition.

Less than a decade old, the wrestling programs at these two schools already have accomplished a lot. Even so, in these parts the sport still flies under the radar of prime-time attention during the basketball season. Travel to western Kansas, though, and you’ll find the reverse is true at many high schools.

Wrestlers and coaches, we recognize the hard work, discipline and fortitude your sport requires. We salute your accomplishments this season. Your grit at the state tournament made us proud. -DR
